Straitsmouth Island Wildlife Sanctuary
- Rockport
- 32 Acres
Plan Your Visit
Encompassing most of a rocky island, the wildlife sanctuary is adjacent to the town-owned historic lighthouse and lies within a designated Important Bird Area. Mass Audubon is working with the Town of Rockport and the Thacher & Straitsmouth Island Association to restore and maintain the lighthouse and lighthouse keeper residence, which are both historically significant structures. Boat trips to the island run each summer via Thacher & Straitsmouth Island Association. If you prefer to head out to the island on your own, you can reach out to local kayak operators for rentals and guided tours.
