2026 Cape Cod ADA Anniversary Celebration at Long Pasture

In celebration of the 36th anniversary of the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Spaulding Adaptive Sports Centers is hosting the 2026 Accessible Outdoors: ADA Anniversary Event in partnership with Mass Audubon and the CORD (Cape Organization for Rights of the Disabled). Together, we honor this historic milestone and reaffirm our commitment to accessibility, inclusion, and equal opportunity for all.

Join us for a free, fully accessible event designed to celebrate inclusivity and connection. Explore Long Pasture’s interactive All Persons Trail through guided tours and discover a wide range of accessible and adaptive resources at our community resource fair.

Hands-on sports equipment and gardening demonstrations will showcase tools and technologies that support individuals with mobility challenges, vision or hearing impairments, chronic illnesses, and other conditions.

Whether you're a resident or visitor, you and your loved ones will find a welcoming, inclusive, and safe environment to learn, connect, and enjoy the outdoors together.

Event Schedule

  • 4:00-7:00 pm: Disability Community members exhibit tables open at the Harbor Overlook Field. Equipment and accessibility feature demonstrations run throughout the day.
  • 4:20 pm: Welcome remarks. Location: Harbor Overlook Field.
  • 4:45-5:15 pm: Guided APT Exploration #1 at the Discovery Center.
  • 5:45-6:15 pm: Guided APT Exploration #2 at the Discovery Center.
  • 7:00 pm: Event wrap at the Harbor Overlook Field.

Amenities and Accessibility Features

Long Pasture Wildlife Sanctuary is committed to creating an inclusive and welcoming experience for all participants. Staff and volunteers will be available to assist with navigation and accommodations throughout the event.

  • Van-accessible parking and a designated drop-off location are located approximately 300 feet from the event space.
  • The path from the parking area to the event space is relatively flat and includes paved surfaces, well-packed crushed stone, and grass.
  • The event will take place outdoors on the Harbor Overlook Field under a large tent.
  • Additional pop-up tents will be located around the perimeter for Disability Community exhibitor tables.
  • Accessible seating is available under the main tent, with additional seating at accessible picnic tables and the Discovery Center’s shaded brick patio.
  • A quiet, climate-controlled space inside the Discovery Center will be available for use as needed throughout the program.
  • Universally accessible restrooms are available in the Discovery Center, located approximately 150 feet from the event tent.
  • An ADA-compliant portable toilet is located near the parking lot.
  • Private, accessible adult changing spaces are available inside the Sherman Parker House classrooms.
  • If you bring a service animal, please keep in mind that this is a wildlife sanctuary. We ask you to make sure your service animal is restrained during the event.
  • A designated water bowl and relief area will be available.
  • Long Pasture’s adaptive equipment, including a GRIT Freedom Chair, Rollator All-Terrain Walker, and beach wheelchair, is available for reservation.

  • Join a naturalist for a 30-minute, slow-paced exploration of the All Persons Trail.
  • The 0.36-mile accessible loop travels through field, tidal flats, salt marsh, forest, and freshwater pond habitats.
  • The trail is relatively flat, with a well-packed crushed stone surface, and is suitable for many wheelchairs and mobility devices.
  • Six seating areas along the trail provide places to rest and observe wildlife.
  • A post-and-rope guide system with braille signage supports independent navigation.
  • Nine tactile enrichment stops offer hands-on learning opportunities.
  • Explorations begin and end outside the Discovery Center.
