Nature—and its physical, mental, and emotional benefits—should be accessible to everyone. To date, visitors can explore 19 All Persons Trails at sanctuaries across the state, demonstrating Mass Audubon’s commitment to making all our wildlife sanctuaries more welcoming and accommodating.
What's Coming
Felix Neck will convert existing trails, forming a half-mile accessible All Persons Trail as part of the sanctuary’s broader trail network. Connecting to existing Island trail systems and amenities will promote inclusivity and increase connectivity between Mass Audubon and partner conservation trails.
With over 20,000 year-round Island residents, 10% of whom live with disabilities, and a rapidly growing senior population, the new All Persons Trail will meet critical accessibility needs in Dukes County.
The trail will use universal design principles, incorporating interpretive features; smooth, gentle grades for improved access by foot, stroller, or wheelchair; and navigation resources which could include a post-and-rope guiding system. While on the trail, visitors will be able to listen to a sensory-rich audio tour or utilize braille signage and tactile maps.
When I walk by myself on one of Mass Audubon's All Persons Trails, I hear more, feel more, and take in more with all my senses. I go at my own speed, stopping when I want to, standing quietly for as long as I choose, and taking in the beauty of nature in my own unique way.
