Birds & Desserts: A New Life for Classically Illustrated Birds

On Display June 6-August 15, 2026

Arcadia Wildlife Sanctuary in Easthampton will feature the vibrant, whimsical works of artists Dora Dylanne Reyes and Don Carter in their Birds & Desserts exhibit.

About the Exhibition

This exhibit showcases the Birds & Desserts series highlighting birds that are native to the Arcadia Wildlife Sanctuary area.

Reyes and Carter collaboratively reinterpret John James Audubon’s Birds of America prints in a modern, graphic art style, incorporating vector-based desserts in each piece, encouraging viewers to question expectations and embrace life’s contradictions.

Visitors will be delighted by the bold visuals and the creative reimagining of classical works.

About the Artists

Don Carter’s lifelong love of birds and illustration has inspired him to recreate Audubon’s Birds of America series in a simplified, graphic style under his fine art pseudonym, Edgar Allan Slothman. Carter is a designer, illustrator, author, and award-winning creative director who was inducted into the Connecticut Art Directors Hall of Fame.

Dora Dylanne Reyes is a baker, watercolorist, and graphic artist. She is a self-taught “pandemic-era” painter who began with birds and has expanded her work to include everything from cakes to cats and flowers to fish. Reyes is the creator of Luvfish Greeting Cards and Art, a line of more than 100 cards sold in jewelry stores and galleries.

Both artists reside locally in the Pioneer Valley.
