Evening Grosbeak
Coccothraustes vespertinus

The Evening Grosbeak, historically a species mainly distributed in the northwestern parts of North America, is increasingly appearing in Massachusetts during the breeding season. Small numbers are now regularly nesting, though they are restricted to the western parts of the state. Despite its increase as a breeding species in the state, staggering declines in its winter distribution are a cause for concern.
