Common Eider
Somateria mollissima

Islands in Buzzards' Bay, Boston Harbor, and off Essex County host most of the nesting areas for the Common Eider in the state. While its breeding range in Massachusetts is very restricted, it has expanded in recent years and it is an abundant species in the winter.
