Sora
Porzana carolina

Despite a modest increase in the distribution of the elusive Sora as shown by Breeding Bird Atlas 2, the fact remains that this small marshbird and its freshwater wetland habitat will continue to require careful protection if the species is to survive as a breeder in Massachusetts. Due to its restricted distribution in Massachusetts, the Sora was recently proposed for protection under the Massachusetts Endangered Species Act.
