The Northern Parula is a rare and local breeder in Massachusetts, but it may be more frequent than previously suspected in wooded areas where Usnea lichen persists in abundance. Currently, the Northern Parula has a very restricted range in the state and is listed as a Threatened species in Massachusetts.
