Great Cormorant
Phalacrocorax carbo

The Great Cormorant is most often encountered in migration and during the winter, although a few immatures regularly linger into summer along the coast. Its breeding distribution is very restricted, with only a single confirmed breeding record for Massachusetts. Control of the eastern Canadian population as a pest species may be responsible for dropping winter numbers.
