You Can Be One of the People Making a Difference
People make land conservation happen. Landowners we work with, staff from our public and private conservation partners, and especially those who support our work, all play absolutely essential roles in the process of protecting important lands across Massachusetts. None of it would happen without the involvement of caring people working together to make the world a better place.
In recent years, there has been a growing recognition of the importance of conserving land for human beings. We all breathe cleaner air, drink cleaner water, have access to healthy locally grown foods, places to decompress in an increasingly stressful world, and opportunities to experience the wonders of nature firsthand – those being just a few of the many invaluable benefits that flow to all of us. When one considers the role that strategic land conservation will play in climate change response – setting aside key lands to sequester carbon, to blunt the impact of coastal storm surges, and to store flood waters from extreme precipitation events – the collective benefits from conserved land enters the realm of life sustaining.
The urgency of climate change is causing more and more people to get involved in the effort to protect land so that it can, in turn, help us navigate this unprecedented environmental challenge. As a result, we are having impact like never before – advancing smart conservation on a grand scale.
Conserved land is so very tangible. As Mark Twain once proclaimed: "Buy land, they're not making it anymore." Setting aside important lands is one of the very few investments virtually guaranteed to be of ever-increasing value - to all of us, and to those who follow.
