Trails at Lincoln Woods

Explore the 1-mile trail system at Lincoln Woods Wildlife Sanctuary. Trails range from level to short slopes, with surfaces that are smooth to uneven. Portions of trails may be wet after spring thaw or heavy rain. 

The sanctuary's mature woodlands serve as an important resting spot for migrating birds in an otherwise urban environment. In early spring, amphibians migrate in large numbers to the numerous vernal pools at Lincoln Woods as part of a natural phenomenon known as "Big Night."

This sanctuary uses a blue/yellow trail marking system. Blue circle trail markers lead away from the parking lot. Yellow circle trail markers lead back to the parking lot.

Trail Descriptions

Elizabeth Lincoln Loop Trail:  

This trail begins in the parking area and leads you through upland pine and hardwood forest, across a seasonal stream, and along the edge of a small field. 

Vernal Pool Trail:  

Located off the Elizabeth Lincoln Trail, this trail leads you to a series of vernal pools at the southern end of the property. Listen for the “quacking” wood frogs in early spring.
