Eastern Massachusetts Bird Sightings — Friday, February 12, 2021

South of Boston: Recent sightings included a Eurasian Wigeon at Fort Phoenix State Reservation in Fairhaven and 2 Greater Yellowlegs at Demarest Lloyd State Park in Dartmouth.

Greater Boston: Notable sightings this week included 12 Redheads at Purgatory Cove in Waltham and all three species of scoters at Draw Seven State Park in Somerville. There were 2 Great Cormorants on the Mystic Lakes in Winchester.

North Shore: Observers found 2 Virginia Rails and a Wilson’s Snipe at Sidney’s Pond in South Peabody. At Andrew’s Point in Rockport, there were 19 Purple Sandpipers, a Dovekie, 3 Thick-billed Murres, 3 Razorbills, and a Black Guillemot. Small flocks of Red Crossbills continue in Salisbury.

Central MA: At Westborough Wildlife Management Area, birders found a Merlin and 2 Hoary Redpolls.

Western MA: An interesting mix of waterfowl was reported from the Holyoke Dam this week, including 3 Gadwalls, 2 Northern Pintails, and 22 Common Mergansers. There were 3 Iceland Gulls at the Bondis Arena in Agawam.
