Bird-a-thon 2023 Nature Activity Points

Looking to challenge yourself while you're out birding? Here are some fun, family-friendly activities to engage and challenge everyone while you bird. The two teams with the most activity points will win an award.


Nature Activities


There are so many great ways to get outside and have fun while you bird, especially for families participating together.  

Earn one point for each species seen and activity completed unless otherwise indicated: 

  • Share a picture you took of one of the birds you spotted.
  • Pick up 10 pieces of trash.
  • Draw a picture of a bird.
  • Fill up your birdfeeder only if it won't attract unwanted wildlife* and/or make your own pine cone birdfeeder.
  • Complete a bird word search, bird matching gameSpring bingo, and/or  nature coloring page worksheets (Each completed worksheet is worth one point.)
  • 5 points if this is the first time you’re participating in Bird-a-thon  
  • 10 points for being green! Only walk, bike, kayak, etc. during Bird-a-thon   
  • 15 points if you completed at least half of the scavenger hunt.
  • 25 points if you completed all of the scavenger hunt.

*If you live in an area where bear activity has been documented, all seed & suet feeders should be removed from April 1–November 1 to avoid attracting Black Bears.

We'd also love to see how you Bird-a-thon! There are several ways to share pictures of your completed activities with Mass Audubon and your fellow participants:

→ Post images on Mass Audubon's Facebook page
→ Share them on Instagram or Twitter by tagging @MassAudubon and including #mabirdathon in your post.
→ Upload your photos to the Bird-a-thon 2023 Digital Gallery—be sure to include your name in the filename so we know who to credit!
