Artist Note: Warhol's Bald Eagle is one of ten silkscreens from his Endangered Species series, which he described as "animals in make-up." The series was commissioned by art dealers Ronald and Frayda Feldman in 1983. Warhol donated one hundred prints to wildlife conservation organizations. Mass Audubon was the recipient of two, the Bald Eagle and the Pine Barrens Tree Frog. The series was exhibited at the American Museum of Natural History in New York, and subsequently at natural history museums across the country.
