Now that the water has warmed and is teeming with marine life, sea turtles are being spotted off southern New England. For more than a decade, Wellfleet Bay's Sea Turtle Sightings website and hotline have served to gather data and raise awareness about sea turtles in the region.

As diamondback terrapins emerge from salt marshes to begin their nesting season, members of Cape Abilities in Eastham have created 25 protective steel wire cages—known as predator enclosures—to be placed around turtle nests to discourage red foxes, raccoons and other animals from digging up nests and eating the eggs.
