Description
With a panoramic view of the Deerfield River Valley, High Ledges supports a variety of northern hardwood trees: sugar and striped maples, yellow birch, American beech, various oaks and hickories, hop hornbeam, and many others. We'll first have an introduction to how to identify trees without leaves, then hike through the forest to the top of the Ledges while learning about the trees. We will also look at forest composition, how it might be affected by climate change, and what we can do to help.

Instructions
Please bring water and wear hiking shoes or sneakers. We will be taking a very leisure walk while looking at trees, however the terrain is rocky and we will be gaining some elevation during our walk.
At the junction of Rt 2 and Rt I-91 in Greenfield, continue west on Rt 2 toward Shelburne for 6 miles. Take a right onto Little Mohawk Rd and bear left at the next junction onto Patten Rd. Continuing on Patten Rd, bear left at the next junction and then bear right. The sanctuary entrance is the second left at approximately 0.8 miles. A small parking area is located a few hundred yards down the sanctuary road on the left; an overflow parking area is also on the left, just as you turn onto the sanctuary road.
