Growing on bark, logs, soil, and rocks, lichens are more easily spotted and studied when leafy plants are dormant, which makes winter a great time to study them. Explore the variety of lichens at the sanctuary and practice field identification of common lichen types. Bring a hand lens (at least 10x), if you have one, or borrow one of ours. A notepad and close-focusing digital camera or smart phone are also useful.

PLEASE NOTE: This program will be conducted in accordance with current Municipal, State, and Mass Audubon Covid-19 protocols. This program will meet and take place outdoors. Indoor restrooms are available, and masks are required when indoors. A detailed confirmation letter will be emailed 24 hours before the program.
