You can't always see the birds, sometimes you'll need to rely on your auditory sense. By understanding what sounds birds are making and why, the chirping, cooing, and squawking becomes a much more fascinating conversation, complete with flock alerts, plan making, and weather predictions. From a sparrow's songs to a woodpecker's drumming, our noisy avian neighbors can tell us a lot about the natural world, if we're open to listening.
