Practice nature writing through the personal essay, defined by its intimate, conversational tone within a short autobiographical nonfiction. You'll receive two contemporary nature essays to read prior to our first meeting. In the first of this 2-session workshop, we'll discuss the readings' technique and content, and then practice our own writing from prompts.

In between sessions, you'll begin to craft your own piece, and get ready to discuss your writing experience, have time to share your writing, and write from more prompts in the next session. While sharing your writing is optional, writers who choose to share will also be given the opportunity to receive positive feedback from the group if they wish. After each session, you'll receive a list of nature writing resources to help you in your nature writing journey.

Meet your presenter:

Kim Hoff, Teacher/Naturalist at Arcadia, a nature writer and essayist who has written for Mass Audubon's Explore, Northern Woodlands Magazine, and Grist Journal's The Writing Life. She's currently working on a book-length collection of nature essays.
