Why should kids have all the fun? Together, we'll explore various habitats and share information about wildlife identification, native and invasive species, the effects of climate change, and more. You'll want your camera and binoculars for these enconters from a naturalist's perspective. And consider an optional group meal of picnic before or after!

8/14: Newburyport Whale Watch
Join Lisa Hutchings for our favorite trip of the summer: a cruise with Newburyport Whale Watch to find marine mammals such as Humpback Whales and Minke Whales. Enjoy searching for seabirds such as Northern Gannets, Storm Petrels, and shearwaters. Choose a morning or afternoon trip.

10/8: Cider & Donut Cruise with Essex River Cruises
Cruise the waters around Choate Island as we learn about the area's natural history, look for birds and other wildlife, and take in the brilliant foliage along the Essex River. Enjoy complimentary hot cider and donuts from Russell Orchards of Ipswich.

11/5: Bogs, Birds, & Solstice Stones
Pitcher plants, sphagnum moss, and sundews in bogs have turned yellow, orange, and deep maroon, making fall the most beautiful season to visit the bog at the Ward Reservation in Andover. We'll seek out mushrooms and birds along the trails and take the hike to the top of Holt Hill, where we'll find the Solstice Stones, a compass-like arrangement of stones set up to mark the sunset on the longest and shortest days of the year.

12/3: Wintering Birds & Tree ID
The leaves from most of the deciduous trees have fallen, beavers are sealing up their lodges, and forest mammals are either preparing to hibernate or winterizing their burrows and dens. Let's walk the wooded trails at Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary, seeking out signs of early winter wildlife preparations, and see what birds will be here for the winter.
