Canoeing on the Ipswich River
Take an easy, leisurely paddle on the river with us as we spot dragonflies, listen to songbirds, and look for turtles and beaver activity. Bring a picnic lunch for a stop on Perkins Island, while we note the first signs of fall in the changing foliage.

Humpback Whales are migrating south at this time of year, so if you want to see breaching, tail lobbing, and bubble netting, this is the time to do it! You can also expect to see several species of migrating seabirds in large numbers.

UMass Amherst Gloucester Marine Station
We'll begin with some birding on the grounds, then meet one of the researchers and get a private tour of the marine station. You'll see scientific work that advances healthy, sustainable fisheries and ecosystems, which provide important human and community benefits on the North Shore.

November 2 / 9:30 am-2:30 pm
Jackson Estuarine Laboratory, UNH
Enjoy a guided walk along the Great Bay estuary, then visit the laboratory, where we'll get a private tour on advances in microbiology, restoration of eelgrass, and shellfish habitats.
