Winter is a great time to be outside exploring the natural world, so stretch your legs and join us for one or more of these vacation week programs. Please note that there is a different fee for the Bird Feeder program.
Build a Bird Feeder: Friday, December 27
Brighten up your yard this winter with a bird feeder handmade by you and your child. Each family will receive a kit containing all the necessary parts and step-by-step instructions to build a feeder that will attract chickadees, nuthatches, cardinals, and many other birds to your yard. A short presentation will highlight the birds that commonly come to feeders, and we will also observe birds in the sanctuary's bird garden.
Outdoor Winter Survival Challenge: Saturday, December 28
Using teamwork and problem solving, we will explore the woodlands of the sanctuary and imagine that we are explorers stranded in the wilderness. In order to survive, we will need to build shelters, collect firewood, and find food and a water source. We will end by roasting marshmallows over a fire and trying out some pine needle tea. Please choose the morning session (10:00 am-12:00 pm) or the afternoon session (1:30-3:30 pm).
Meets in the Barn. Please dress for the weather since we will be outdoors most of the time.
