Chose Your Program:

The Wonders of the Marsh

Connect underwater and above-water animals and plants in a web of eat or be eaten, through hands-on investigation in the marsh. Walk the trails along the wetland and search for herons and waterfowl, turtles and frogs, and signs of beaver. Explore the life of underwater creatures, such as dragonflies and water boatmen, dipped up with nets and buckets. Feel the spongy stalks of the arrow arum plant, compare the two sides of a water lily leaf, and try to find the carnivorous bladderwort. Marsh exploration is available for part of the season based on water levels and the plant's and animal's dormancy cycles as they prepare for winter.

Into the Woods
Search the layers of the forest from the soil underfoot to the swaying tree tops. Search for birds and squirrels in the canopy, use magnifying glasses to expose the secret jobs of the F.B.I. (fungus, bacteria & invertebrates) in the leaf litter, and look for tracks and signs of other forest friends along the trails. Learn to tell the age of a white pine tree, visit the beech and seek out witch's hats. Find out why they all call the woods their home.

Busy Animals in Autumn

How do animals get ready for winter? Investigate how different groups of animals try different strategies. Watch some animals that migrate and learn the connection with food. Do an activity about heart rates and breathing to understand what hibernation is like for local woodchucks. There is a lot of busy work too for those animals that stay local and stay active through winter- what are they doing?

All programs can be customized to your group's interests; optional activities for children based on age and interest can be provided.
