Mass Audubon is committed to the concept and practice of constructing green buildings. Green building practices aim for environmental soundness in both construction and maintenance.

Green buildings are generally characterized by:

  • Sustainable site development
  • Water savings
  • Energy efficiency and conservation
  • Responsible materials selection
  • Indoor environmental quality
  • Use of renewable energy

We plan to apply green building standards to all new buildings, building renovations, and site improvements on our property. So far we have put the concept of green building into practice at 10 wildlife sanctuaries to date including:
