Addressing Climate Change in Local Communities

Mass Audubon’s Shaping the Future of Your Community program assists municipalities in considering holistic climate change impacts and reducing vulnerability.

We provide support for municipalities through the Massachusetts Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness (MVP) program, which assists communities in addressing the challenges of climate change and prioritizing actions to create a safer and more resilient future.

We support local adoption of the Community Preservation Act (CPA), which allows communities to establish a dedicated local fund for open space, historic preservation, community housing, and outdoor recreation projects as well as receive matching funds from the state. Learn more about how to adopt the CPA in your community and what it can be used for.

We also introduce municipal officials and others to resources like Mass Audubon’s MAPPR tool, which identifies land parcels in their communities that could contribute most to climate resiliency, or how to protect wetlands, which are especially important for controlling floods.
