A Big Step for Climate Change Planning

In an exciting move forward for climate change adaptation, Governor Baker has signed an Executive Order directing state agencies to take action to make Massachusetts more resilient.
The Order requires agencies to:

  • Develop a statewide action plan
  • Conduct vulnerability studies
  • Provide technical assistance to cities and towns
  • Encourage nature-based solutions

The Executive Order also aims to continue reducing emissions by improving the targets set forth by the Global Warming Solutions Act. Mass Audubon and our Climate Change Adaptation Coalition commend Governor Baker on this important step forward. We will, however, continue advocating for legislation that is more comprehensive and long-term in preparing Massachusetts for climate change.
