About This Position

We are looking for an experienced youth and adult educator who is enthusiastic, highly motivated, dedicated to environmental and climate education, loves to be outdoors and deeply committed to equity in access to nature for all to coordinate our public program offerings. The Public Programs Education Coordinator serves as a member of Mass Audubon’s dynamic Metro West Team, engaging both internal and external stakeholders, ensuring educational and outreach outcomes, and promoting Mass Audubon’s mission of protecting the nature of Massachusetts for wildlife and people. The ideal candidate will also support Mass Audubon’s commitment to equity and justice and bring a diverse range of experiences, expressions, and views to their work. Our Metro West Region includes Broadmoor Wildlife Sanctuary in Natick, Drumlin Farm Wildlife Sanctuary in Lincoln, Habitat Wildlife Sanctuary in Belmont, Magazine Beach Park Nature Center in Cambridge and Brewster’s Woods in Concord.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Work with Metro West Education Manager and Public Programs Team to develop, coordinate and teach nature/farm-based programs to youth, adults and families at our wildlife sanctuaries.
• Provide oversight, support and training for Mass Audubon Metro West Public Program Field Teachers.
• Provide oversite and management of DF Learning Garden in partnership with DF Learning Garden work group
• Assist with the planning and development of new programs and activities.
• Work with the Wildlife Care Department to train on protocols and use of program wildlife in programs.
• Work with Statewide Evaluation and Curriculum Manger, Metro West Education Manger and Public Programs Team to provide ongoing evaluation of public program offerings and program participant learning.
• Work with Metro West Education Manager and development Team to write and report on grant funding as appropriate.
• Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Must Haves: 

• Experience working with a variety of audiences, including adults, youth and families.
• At least four years relevant experience in education, community engagement, environmental studies, or related field; bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience preferred.
• Strong organizational, time management, oral, and written communication skills.
• Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills, including the ability to build relationships and deal tactfully with community partners, students, volunteers and staff.
• Strong skills and experience working with diverse groups.
• Ability to exercise cultural competence, and implement best practices in inclusion.
• Demonstrate a positive attitude and work collaboratively, as a positive contributor to the team.
• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously and work independently.
• Proficiency in standard business software, such as Microsoft Office or G Suite.
• Ability to successfully complete Community First aid/ CPR class, offered by Mass Audubon at no cost
• Have a valid driver’s license.

 Nice to Haves: 

• Garden planning and management.
• Knowledge of local impacts of climate change.
• Fluency in Spanish strongly preferred.

Compensation & Benefits

This position’s base salary range is $21.10 - $23.65; actual salary will reflect level of experience and qualifications relative to position requirements.

Additional Information

Work Schedule: 

The standard work schedule for this position is 40 hours per week, Tuesday-Saturday and may include occasional Sundays to meet the needs of the program and organization.

Other Requirements:

Employees must successfully complete a CORI and SORI Background Check and a Motor Vehicle Record (if applicable) is required.
