Full Time Preschool Teacher – Boston Nature Center’s Pathways to Nature

Candidates for this position must possess a love of nature and teaching outdoors with children ages 3 to 6 years old. Our teachers work with a co-teacher to develop and implement a multi-sensory, hands-on/minds-on, nature-based science curriculum that adheres to the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care learning standards for preschool. Our curriculum incorporates emergent language and math experiences along with creative arts, music, cooking and the development of social/emotional skills. The majority of each day is spent outdoors, exploring the 67-acre wildlife sanctuary with the preschoolers. Our teachers maintain clear communication with a Lead Teacher to ensure developmentally appropriate teaching practices/activities are being implemented. Our teachers connect with families, assist the Lead Teacher as needed, and maintain a warm, professional relationship with children and their families.


  • Provide a physically and emotionally safe environment for young children in both indoor and outdoor settings,
  • Work with a co-teacher to develop and implement a curriculum that reflects the needs and interests of the children,
  • Follow protocols established by Boston Nature Center and EEC regulations,
  • Help maintain the physical environment by contributing to housekeeping tasks as needed,
  • Spend significant time outdoors with the students during all seasons,
  • Participate in Parent/Teacher Conferences and community engagement activities,
  • Observing and documenting children’s learning through the use of notes and assessment tools,
  • Acknowledge and respect diversity and promote inclusion of all people regardless of ethnic, cultural, linguistic backgrounds, gender identity, sexual orientation, and physical and mental disabilities,
  • Maintain schedule as determined by the Preschool Director.


  • EEC Preschool Teacher required,
  • Familiarity with inquiry-based and play-based nature education,
  • Familiarity with MA early childhood standards,
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to work cooperatively and independently required,
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills and commitment to helping others grow in understanding of and concern for the environment and people’s relationship to it,
  • Ability to lead walks on trails, current first aid/CPR or willing to obtain,
  • Successful candidates will need to pass a back records check (CORI, SORI and Fingerprinting).

Compensation and Benefits

Salary: $37,000-$42,000 based on experience. Full time (40 hours) plus full-time benefits.
