About This Position

The kitchen manager manages the coordination, delivery, and clean-up of dining services to the campers and staff.  

Duties & Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

  • Manage the daily operations of the camp dining service including coordinating activities between the kitchen and dining room.  
  • Work with Kitchen staff to know and understand the meals being served and the related dining service’s needs. 
  • Work closely with Food Service Manager to coordinate the specifics of special meals such as picnic dinners, guest meals, and snack carts. 
  • Provide counts for a meal, coordinate serving food and seconds, attend to special needs. 
  • Work closely with person leading songs/announcements at each meal to coordinate timing of service. 
  • Arrange proper seating facilities keeping in mind all rules and regulations concerning safety, fire, and health concerns. 
  • Oversee the cleanliness of  dining room equipment and furnishings. 
  • Oversee the cleanliness of tables, benches, floors, ascertaining that everything is in readiness for the following meal. 
  • Assist the Food Service Manager and Cook with inspecting the cleanliness of all dishes, silverware, or any other eating/serving utensil. 
  • Set up an adequate area for the disposal of trays, silverware, trash, glasses, and recycling, etc. 
  • Maintain, stock, clean, and prepare beverages as needed in the dining room area. 
  • Oversee the sweeping and mopping of the dining hall on a regular basis. 
  • Inventory and refill any materials needed in the operation of the dining room. 
  • Oversee the dish room cleanliness.
  • Wash dishes before and after meals and maintain the cleanliness of dish room. 
  • Coordinate dish schedule.

We are looking for applicants with the following qualifications:

  • Applicants must be at least 20 years of age.
  • Knowledge of current health and safety laws and practices related to food service is helpful.
  • Experience in institutional or large food service setting preferred.
  • Knowledge of and experience in food service especially with serving methods. 

Equipment Used: Dishwashing Machine. 

Compensation & Benefits

This position’s base salary range is $14 - $16 an hour; actual salary will reflect level of experience and qualifications relative to position requirements.

This is not a benefits eligible position.

Additional Information

The employee hired for this position may live at camp or may commute if they are local. 

The duration of this assignment is for 10 - 12 weeks, start date is early June and end date is late August.

Work Schedule:

Two shifts are available

  • Monday through Friday:  7:00 am to 3:00 pm
  • Monday through Friday:  8:00 am to 4:00 pm

Other Requirements:

Employees must successfully complete a CORI and SORI Background Check and a Motor Vehicle Record (if applicable) is required.

Mass Audubon requires that all staff, regardless of their work location, disclose their vaccination status. Proof of vaccination status will be required immediately upon hire. This should also include a booster shot if it has been 5 months since you were initially vaccinated.
