Day Camp Counselor - Wildwood
Day Camp counselors work directly with campers and strive to provide a safe and positive environment in which campers grow both personally and socially and explore the natural environment. Counselors also teach a variety of activities.
Responsibilities
- Ensure physical and emotional safety of campers
- Ensure campers’ basic needs (food, water, health,) are met each day
- Supervise campers effectively during meal, program and transition times
- Clearly communicate expectations
- Set appropriate limits and boundaries with campers
- Manage camper behavior in a positive manner according to training
- Follow emergency procedures according to training
- Facilitate all aspects of camp life and campers’ social and personal development
- Lead and/or participate in creative morning meetings
- Ensure campers are prepared for the weather and activities
- Focus on your campers during lunch
- Contribute to the development of a positive, supportive camp community
- Lead spontaneous activities during unstructured times
- Show positive tone and patience when communicating with campers
- Support campers with homesickness with caring and compassion
- Act as a positive role model for campers and fellow staff members
- Deliver high-quality program activities
- Facilitate high-quality activities scheduled
- Arrive on time and fully prepared to lead all scheduled activities
- Generate excitement for programs through personal enthusiasm and skits
- Making topics engaging, fun and educational for participants
- Act as a full participant in the Wildwood community
- Abide by all Wildwood and Mass Audubon policies and procedures
- Strive to maintain a high level of personal health and wellness
- Maintain positive, professional relationships with co-workers
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Applicants must have a strong desire to work with children in an outdoor setting and an interest in teaching and learning about the natural environment. Counselors must be at least 19 years old or have graduated High School on or before 2020, hold current First Aid and CPR certifications.
Compensation and Benefits
Salary paid biweekly, comprehensive training, housing and meals for the duration of employment, and other benefits. Compensation begins at $2945 DOE for the season.
Additional Comments
Staff training for camp beings early June. Day camp runs for 6 weeks Monday July 5th through Friday August13th. Day Camp coordinator along with the Camp Director and Program Manager will determine exact schedule.
