About This Position
Mass Audubon is seeking rangers (30 hours/week) to assist with patrolling an island in Barnstable, Massachusetts.
Start Date: ASAP End Date: August 31st.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Accomplish the wildlife management, protection, and education objectives of the Coastal Waterbird Program by ensuring that beachgoers do not land in closed areas and remain outside of symbolic fencing for nesting shorebirds.
- Assist and coordinate with Coastal Waterbird Program staff in the region to follow best practices for protection and management.
- Interact with beachgoers to provide information regarding regulations and beach ecology.
- Other tasks as directed.

- Applicants must have strong interpersonal skills.
- Must be able to work long hours outside in all weather conditions across varied and sandy terrain.
- Must be comfortable on an island with no facilities.
- Must be willing to work weekends, holidays.
- Must have access to a vehicle.
Nice to Have’s:
- Interest in environmental protection and/or environmental law enforcement.
- Small boat-handling experience preferred.
Compensation & Benefits
This position’s base salary range is $18 - $20 per hour; actual salary will reflect level of experience and qualifications relative to position requirements.
This is not a benefits eligible position.
Holidays and weekends required; work schedule is typically 11-6 pm, 3-5 days a week.
Employees must successfully complete a CORI and SORI Background Check and a Motor Vehicle Record (if applicable) is required.
Mass Audubon requires that all staff, regardless of their work location, disclose their vaccination status. Proof of vaccination status will be required immediately upon hire. This should also include a booster shot if it has been 5 months since you were initially vaccinated.
