About This Position
Unit Counselors live and work directly with campers and strive to provide a safe and positive environment in which campers grow both personally and socially and explore the natural environment. Counselors also teach a variety of nature activities, arts and crafts, games and songs.
Duties & Responsibilities
Essential Job Functions:
- Deliver high-quality program activities
- Facilitate high-quality NGs, DGs, OATs activities and EPs as scheduled
- Arrive on time and fully prepared to lead all scheduled activities
- Generate excitement for programs through personal enthusiasm and skits
- Making topics engaging, fun and educational for participants
- Facilitate all aspects of cabin life and campers’ social and personal development
- Lead and/or participate in creative Wake Ups and Morning Circles
- Ensure campers leave the unit appropriately prepared for the weather and activities
- Facilitate quality cabin clean-ups and orderly showers during morning Unit Time
- Focus on your campers during meals and facilitate Dining Hall duties
- Facilitate a quiet, restful cabin environment during daily Siesta
- Lead effective and engaging nightly Cabin Chats
- Be available for campers during Unit Duty as scheduled
- Contribute to the development of a positive, supportive camp community
- Lead spontaneous activities during unstructured times
- Show positive tone and patience when communicating with campers
- Support campers with homesickness with caring and compassion
- Act as a positive role model for campers and fellow staff members
- Ensure physical and emotional safety of campers
- Ensure campers’ basic needs (food, water, health, sleep) are met each day
- Supervise campers effectively during cabin, meal, program and transition times
- Clearly communicate expectations
- Set appropriate limits and boundaries with campers
- Manage camper behavior in a positive manner according to training
- Follow emergency procedures according to training

We are looking for applicants with the following qualifications:
- Counselors must be at least 19 years old or have graduated High School on or before 2021
- Applicants must have a strong desire to work with children in an outdoor setting and an interest in teaching and learning about the natural environment
- Hold current First Aid and CPR certifications, OR be willing to obtain certification before arriving at camp
- Be willing to live full-time in a residential camp setting
Compensation & Benefits
This position’s base salary begins at $400 a week actual salary will reflect level of experience and qualifications relative to position requirements.
This is not a benefits eligible position.
This is a full time summer position.
The duration of this assignment is for 11 weeks, start date is early June and end date is August 28, 2022.
Employees must successfully complete a CORI and SORI Background Check and a Motor Vehicle Record (if applicable) is required.
Mass Audubon requires that all staff, regardless of their work location, disclose their vaccination status. Proof of vaccination status will be required immediately upon hire. This should also include a booster shot if it has been 5 months since you were initially vaccinated.
