Wellfleet Bay has been chosen as a beneficiary of the 2019 Seaside Le Mans race, an annual event that raises money for Cape Cod nonprofits.

The Seaside Le Mans Matching Challenge—anticipated to be as much as $50,000—will help us strengthen, sustain, and expand conservation science programs in schools from Harwich to Provincetown.

Our Vision for Conservation Science Education

Wellfleet Bay seeks to teach every Outer Cape student about Cape Cod ecology, habitats, and wildlife. We bring our leading conservation, science, and research about Cape Cod’s endangered, threatened, and at-risk wildlife species into our school programs. Children build solid science skills as they learn about actual science and research through hands-on science activities in the classroom and during outdoor field investigations.

Reaching More Local Children

The Seaside Le Mans Matching Challenge will help Wellfleet Bay:

  • Strengthen our Conservation Science Education Programs
Our school programs meet state and national science standards. We strengthen programs by developing innovative new curricula—such as our new Bird Research in Action and Marine Plastics programs—and enhancing existing curricula with our latest conservation science research.
  • Sustain Existing School Programs
We have dramatically expanded School Programs over the last decade, and seek to strengthen support for the programs by welcoming new individual, business, and foundation supporters so that together, we ensure learning opportunities for children now and in the future.
  • Expand to Reach More Cape Cod Kids!
Serve more local children each year by expanding our conservation science programs into schools or grades that are currently underserved.

Seaside Le Mans

The Race for the Cape Cod Community

Seaside Le Mans is an exciting annual fundraising event held by the Davenport Companies. On Saturday, September 7, drivers will rev their engines and race Formula One racing karts around a quarter-mile track at Mashpee Commons. The event is free and great for families!

Last year the event raised $600,000 for five Cape Cod nonprofits.
