Cape Cod Bird Sightings — Tuesday, August 31, 2021
The following sightings were reported between August 25–31, 2021.
An American Avocet was still present and seen by many at High Head in Truro this week.
Sightings at Race Point in Provincetown this week included 2 Baird’s Sandpipers, a Pectoral Sandpiper, 3 Parasitic Jaegers, 2 Lesser Black-backed Gulls, 3 Black Skimmers, 4 Black Terns, 800 Roseate Terns, 1200 Common Terns, a Razorbill, 17 Wilson’s Storm-Petrels, 200 Great Shearwaters, 9 Sooty Shearwaters, 65 Manx Shearwaters, 120 Northern Gannets, a Great Cormorant, 25 Horned Larks, and 3 Purple Martins.
Razorbills were also reported from Provincetown Harbor, Stellwagen Bank, and High Head in Truro, and a Black Guillemot was also reported from Provincetown Harbor.
Birds at Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary included a Little Blue Heron, 3 Western Sandpipers, 6 White-rumped Sandpipers, 37 Forster’s Terns, and 2 Great Horned Owls.
Other sightings around the Cape this week included 2 Black Vultures in Bourne, 2 American Wigeon in Marstons Mills, Little Blue Herons in Falmouth, Harwich, and Chatham, 2 Caspian Terns in Mashpee, a Cliff Swallow in Orleans, and a Pine Siskin in Wellfleet.
