Wild, Wild Wellfleet!
Mark your calendars—we're celebrating 10 years of Wild, Wild Wellfleet! on Thursday, July 18.
This event brings together over 200 supporters and friends of Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary to enjoy delicious food and drink by some of the best chefs and beverage purveyors on the Outer Cape, live music, and a dynamic live auction under a tent on the grounds of the sanctuary, all in support of our in-school and citizen science programs, and our ecological management efforts.
Since its inception in 2009, Wild, Wild Wellfleet! has:
- Enabled us to more than double the size of our school program, reaching more than 2,200 local students from pre-k to high school from Brewster and Harwich to Provincetown.
- Allowed us to provide 80 week-long day camp scholarships to local Outer Cape kids every year. With nearly 35% of students across Nauset and Monomoy Regional School Districts qualifying for free and reduced lunch subsidies, these scholarships create access to our day camp for those who may otherwise be unable to attend due to cost.
- Supported the operation of the largest annual cold-stunned endangered sea turtle rescue and recovery program in the world. Sanctuary staff and volunteers have rescued or recovered nearly 3,500 endangered sea turtles, with close to 70% of them in the last three years alone!
