A Seaside Appreciation

Following the first of what has become an annual event for leadership level donors, Mass Audubon Cape Cod’s 2022 Seaside Celebration is drawing rave reviews from among the 200 people who gathered at Wellfleet Bay to enjoy live music, delectable hors d'oeuvres, and beverages, and to learn about our region’s conservation and education programs and initiatives.

Show of Gratitude

Cape Region Development Director Wendy O’Keefe says the Seaside Celebration is intended to express gratitude to the region’s many Leadership Friends, a group of donors whose support fuels much of the work that happens at Wellfleet Bay and Long Pasture and within the wider community. “From our education staff teaching in local schools, to making possible the discounts we offer to our local families to send their kids to nature day camp, and allowing our nature pre-school to expand to five days a week, this support is so vital.”

“’Magical!’ is one of the many comments we received,” says Special Events Coordinator Deb Friedman, who planned and orchestrated the entire evening. “ Even people who said they didn’t usually enjoy large parties said they had a blast!”

A Chance to Meet and Greet

Exploration stations at various locations around the Nature Center gave attendees a chance to learn about the region’s wide-ranging work, including its wildlife conservation and school programs, climate action for local high schoolers, Mass Audubon’s local and statewide coastal resilience work, and recent and upcoming improvements in sanctuary accessibility.

“People told me they enjoyed getting to know so many of our staff members,” Deb notes. Attendees also had the special opportunity to meet Mass Audubon President David O’Neill, Senior Regional Director for Coastal Sanctuaries, Amy Weidensaul, and Cape Cod Regional Director, Melissa Lowe.

Deb quotes another guest who, she says, summed up the evening well: “I got to talk to a lot of people, the oysters were amazing, and even the speeches were truly uplifting!”

Seaside Celebration 2023 will be held at Long Pasture.
