Wellfleet Bay has ground and roof mounted solar arrays, which allow the sanctuary to to produce much of its own electricity from renewable sources, and solar thermal systems for the campground, dormitories and nature center hot water needs.

Camp Building & Ground Mounted Array

In 2006 a solar ground mounted array and a roof mounted array on the camp building were installed. These arrays combined produce 21 kW and reduce the electricity drawn from the public electric provider, allowing the sanctuary to take a dramatic step toward energy self-reliance. Find out more about these arrays

Solar Thermal Hot Water Systems

In the spring of 2010 Wellfleet installed solar thermal systems for the campground, dormitories and nature center to cover all of its domestic hot water needs.
