Bird-a-thon Soars into its 40th Year!
The 4-1-1 on Bird-a-thon
On your mark. Get set. Bird! May is just around the corner which means Mass Audubon’s annual spring fundraiser is back! This spring tradition has taken place every year- rain, snow, or shine—since 1983, and raised over $3.8M. This year, the South East Team is hoping to mark the anniversary by getting even more community members to join us outdoors on May 12-13 to find as many bird species as we can or just celebrate spring by enjoying backyard birding, a neighborhood walk or family scavenger hunt, while helping our team hit its fundraising goal.
Join Our Team
First, and foremost! You don’t have to be a birder to participate in Bird-a-thon. Everyone is welcome to join the team—whether you’re into birding, love exploring nature, or just want a good reason to get outside on a spring day. If birds are not your thing, you can focus on fundraising for our team and take part in nature activities.
Beginners and casual birders encouraged to join our team. We have a host of family friend programs planned across the region throughout the weekend as well as a ton of activities you can use to get kids outside and enjoying the nature across southeastern Massachusetts.
This year, the South East Team has set a bold goal to raise $20,000 to support our Environmental Education programs. Did you know? Last year, our region provided more than $30,000 in camperships through our sliding scale and scholarship program. Each summer, hundreds of kids have the experience of a lifetime at one of our Nature Camps!
At Mass Audubon, we believe all kids deserve the chance to explore the outdoors. With your help, funds raised will allow us to offer a sliding scale to local families, defraying the costs for families that can’t afford it, and support the overall program.
