Trees provide much more than shade or pretty additions to city streets and neighborhood parks. This 6-lesson unit explores habitats, adaptations, and life cycles, with trees as a unifying theme. With accessibility to all learners as a priority, lessons highlight the diversity of trees across various Massachusetts habitats, including suburban, urban and rural areas. Nature journaling assignments highlight observation and other science skills and encourage students to choose a tree near their home or school to chronicle throughout the unit. This program is offered in a hybrid format: lessons are introduced by the teacher with videos, students complete an outdoor assignment in their field journals, and then a Mass Audubon educator leads a synchronous class to make sense of the data students collected and deepen their understanding. If we (MAS) are leading the synchronous lessons: base price is $150/lesson.Sessions can be 40-60 min for same price. Discounts: 2-5 classrooms, same lessons repeated - 15% discount. Price per classroom is $127.50. High needs school: 20% discount. Price per classroom is $120. You can combine these: multiple classrooms in high needs school: 35% discount, $97.50 per lesson. If Mass Audubon educators are NOT leading the synchronous sessions, and we are simply providing curriculum materials, the entire unit is $100 and can be shared with any teacher in the school.
