Welcoming the winter season at North River Wildlife Sanctuary with this free community event over two days that will include guided nature experiences, arts and crafts for all ages, story times, live birds of prey, and more. Join one or all of our events on December 2 and 3.

December 2 • 9:00 am-2:00 pm

First Friday Birding & Conversation

9:00-10:00 am

Bring your binoculars and enjoy coffee, birding and lively conversation about recent (or not so recent) bird sightings with fellow bird and nature enthusiasts. Coffee and snacks provided.

Guided Bird Walk

10:00-11:30 am

Explore the sanctuary trails with our experienced staff in search of the birds that call the fields, forests, and wetlands of North River home during the winter.

NestWatch Lunch and Learn

12:00-1:00 pm

Bring a lunch and your questions about how you can become involved in NestWatch in the South East. We’ll share what NestWatch is, why it matters, and how you can become a volunteer.

Build Your Own Nest Box ($10 fee)

1:00-2:00 pm

Build your own nest box and monitoring birds in your own neighborhood! Gain knowledge of the where and when for nest box placement as well as all materials and support to leave with your own complete nest box.

Guided Nature Adventure for All Ages

10:00-11:00am and 12:00-1:00pm

Explore the trails with our experienced staff in search of plants and animals, and enjoy all the joys nature has to share.

Welcome Winter Storytime

11:00-11:30am and 1:00-1:30pm

Stop into the Discovery Room as we read a story together to celebrate the coming of winter and all the fun it brings. Recommended for ages 3-8.

Fireside Chats

11:00 am-2:00 pm

Drop by anytime to connect and meet various staff from Mass Audubon South East and learn what we’re excited about in 2023 and beyond! There will be a warm fire, hot cocoa and cider, and great conversations to be had.

Live Raptors Demonstration

11:00 am-2:00 pm

Have you ever wanted to meet an owl? Now is your chance! Our friends from Blue Hills Trailside Museum will be stopping by with some incredible feathered friends that are sure inspire some unforgettable winter memories.

Winter Crafts for Kids

11:00 am-2:00 pm

When we aren’t reading stories in the Discovery Room, we’ll be creating a winter craft to take home.
