Our Camp Staff

Camp Director – Shawn Moriarty

Our director is Shawn Moriarty. Shawn grew up in Storrs, CT, and attended the University of Connecticut. He has worked with summer camps and outdoor education programs for 34 years around the country. Shawn has a BA in Asian American Relations and a Master's in Environmental Education.

Shawn is a firm believer that children need to spend time in nature as often as possible, and that time at camp can play an incredibly important role in the development of a child.

Assistant Camp Director – Michael Acciavatti

Michael Acciavetti, Assistant Camp Director at Moose Hill Camp

Michael is our full time Teacher Naturalist and acts as one of the Assistant Camp Directors during the summer. He is an enthusiastic champion of our camp program, eagerly mentoring campers and staff as well as supervising our Adventure Day Trip Camp.

Since graduating from the University of Vermont with a B.S. in Forest Biology, Michael has taught environmental education throughout New England, worked as a classroom teacher, and worked in the tree care industry. In his spare time he takes his son on new adventures, sings, and donates to American chestnut research.

Staff Selection Criteria

Our caring, well-prepared counselors are actively engaged in teaching and playing with campers. All staff members bring their enthusiasm for outdoor exploration, a desire to educate, and a compassionate heart for children. Counselors are 18 years of age or older, and many are college students majoring in science, psychology, or education.

All are CPR and first-aid certified and trained in the use of EpiPens. Junior counselors are at least 16 years of age. Prior to the start of camp, all staff members undergo background checks and participate in training.
