Cape’s Education Team Welcomes a New Member

Denise Steiger

Mass Audubon Cape Cod's education team has added a new full-time teacher/naturalist. Denise Steiger, who grew up in Sarasota, Florida, moved to the Cape in 2021 with her husband Matt, an engineer with Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. Before joining Mass Audubon, Denise worked at the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History and at Cotuit Center for the Arts as the youth and family program administrator.

School programs coordinator Spring Beckhorn says Denise has a strong background in nature-based teaching, school administration, and community outreach. “She has worked with many different audience groups and grade levels," Spring says. "We're excited to have her experience in program design and delivery as we expand programming in the Barnstable Public Schools."

As a newcomer to Cape Cod, Denise has been exploring and enjoying the Cape’s many open natural spaces and small-town feel. But as a long-time warm weather person she’s also had to make some adjustments since arriving. “ I’ve had to buy more socks!” she notes.

Denise will be based at Long Pasture.
