Summer Open Air Ecology for Families
No need to face the long lines, parking challenges, and crowds at the beach to have a great time outdoors this summer. Join us in the riverside yard at Joppa Flats instead! Learn Sign up for one or all of these programs and see nature through the lens of a naturalist!
Education Coordinator Lisa Hutchings and her team will guide families with children ages 6-12 on the identification of wild creatures, designing small habitats, participating in small group challenges, and more.
Sign up for one or all of these 2-hour educational outdoor excursions and see nature through the lens of a naturalist! Joppa Flats will provide all field gear and equipment.
Programs take place on Thursday afternoons (1:00-3:00 pm) and Friday mornings (10:00 am-12:00 pm).
- June 24 & 25 — Backyard Birds
- July 8 & 9 — The Freshwater Pond Habitat
- July 15 & 16 — The Salt Marsh
- July 22 & 23 — The Rocky Shore Habitat
- August 5 &6 — Insects & Spiders
- August 12 & 13 — The Sandy Beach Habitat
- August 19 & 20 — The Rocky Shore Habitat (repeat)
Cost & Registration
Preregistration is required for each session. Please note that this is not a drop-off program,. All children must be accompanied by at least one adult, and all adults are expected to participate in the program.
Members: $15/adult, $13/child • Nonmembers: $20/adult, $18/child
