Energy Flow in Wetlands Field Trip Series
School-based introductory program followed by a field trip with a final wrap-up lesson at your school.
Intro School Program (one-hour): Explore the ways in which energy from the sun moves through living things in ecosystems via photosynthesis and feeding relationships between consumers and decomposers. Students participate in a variety of simulations and explorations to understand the role of energy and matter cycles.
Field Trip (2, 2.5, or 3-hours): Students will identify local wetland plants, collect water samples, and catch aquatic organisms in order to investigate how matter is recycled and how energy flows in aquatic ecosystems. Based on observation and data collection, students discover human impacts and discuss solutions to protect our wetlands.
Follow-up School Program (one-hour): Students conclude the series with a series of activities, investigations and discussion routines in which they will demonstrate their understanding of how individual organisms obtain and use energy and the energy dynamics of ecosystems.

In-School Sessions: Program cost depends on number of classrooms participating (20-30* students or fewer per classroom - no auditorium style programs). The first classroom/group is $160, and any additional classrooms are $105 each. Specialty program fees and mileage not included.

Field Trip Session: Program cost depends on number of students and length of program. Mass Audubon charges a flat fee per group of 15 students ("sub-group"). For a two hour program, the first sub-group is $180, and any additional sub-groups are $150 each. Maximum of 6 sub-groups of 15 students or 90 total students. Entry fees to certain field trip locations not included.
