Group Programs for Children & Young Adults at Ipswich River
Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary offers a variety of fun and educational nature-based programs for scout troops, birthdays, homeschools, and more. Our scout and birthday programs can be customized to meet your needs and allow you to explore the wide variety of habitats our sanctuary has to offer. Our homeschool program provides your child with an opportunity to socialize with other homeschool students and an intimate experience with nature.
Ipswich River offers programs for all levels of Girl and Boy Scouts. Our qualified educators will lead your troop on an exploration of the diverse habitats at our wildlife sanctuary while fulfilling the requirements of select badges. We currently offer programs covering most nature-based badges and can design a program to fulfill the requirements of a specific badge. Self-guided hikes can also be arranged. Programs are offered after school or on weekends.
Looking for a place to have a fun and memorable birthday for your child? Ipswich River offers birthday party programs for children of all ages. Select a theme and we will do the rest! Enjoy an educator-led exploration of the sanctuary with plenty of time to enjoy cake and presents in our Nature Center or Barn. Parties are held Tuesday through Sunday and last two hours.
Our homeschool program is designed to expose children to the wonders of nature through outdoor exploration, hands-on activities, and scientific inquiry. An emphasis is placed on cooperative learning and students are encouraged to develop relationships with one another through games and team-building activities. Portions of the program will take place indoors, but on most days we anticipate spending the majority of our time outdoors at the sanctuary.
Our preschool programs provide wonderful learning opportunities for your four to five-year-old students. The programs are a mix of hands-on activities, experiments, songs, demonstrations, stories and nature walks. Our programs are specially designed to strengthen listening and observation skills while teaching children about the natural world.
Naturalists from Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary visit your after-school program to lead engaging, fun, and hands-on science and natural history enrichment. Our programs align with Mass STEM standards and are designed to fuel curiosity and inquiry about nature, beginning with the nature they see every day in their own backyards.
Both stand-alone and series programs are available. These offsite enrichments are offered year-round for programs, centers, clubs, and community organizations that provide after-school or out-of-school opportunities for school-aged children in grades K-12.
We have facilities available for rental by private and public groups and organizations. The Barn offers a comfortable, quaint open space for large gatherings with an opportunity for smaller groupings within the space. The Nature Center is a smaller building located across from the Barn. It offers a more intimate meeting space along with spectacular close-up views of native birds feeding in the sanctuary’s bird habitat garden.
