Group Programs for Children & Young Adults at Habitat
On Belmont Hill, just six miles northwest of downtown Boston, lies Habitat Education Center and Wildlife Sanctuary, an 93-acre urban oasis that has been devoted to environmental education since 1970. Habitat offers a variety of fun and educational nature-based programs for scout troops, birthdays, homeschools, and more.
Preschool Naturalists is an enrichment program for children ages 3-4. It meets once a week, for 30 weeks, from fall through spring. Many of the children who come attend other preschool programs on the other weekdays. Our mission is to encourage young children to enjoy and explore the outdoors through games and other learning experiences. We want to facilitate their natural curiosity and joy in the world around them and help them to establish a sense of ownership of this sanctuary. Children in the program have the freedom to play and interact with their environment, learning to appreciate the variety and scope of the natural world.
Deadline to apply for 2018-19 school year is March 22, 2018.
Habitat Wildlife Sanctuary offers homeschool programs for children ages 6-13. Generally students meet for two hours a week to explore the woods, ponds, and other habitats. Indoor and outdoor time is included in each session. It’s also a wonderful opportunity to meet with other students in a social environment while engaging with the natural world.
Celebrate your child’s birthday at Habitat! We offer birthday parties from October to June for up to 15 children. Parties include a 00-minute program, designed for children turning 6 to 10 years old, led by two Habitat teachers. Programs always include some time outside. Your guests then return to the library, where you may serve refreshments. Parties can be held weekdays, after school, or on weekends.
Come and learn about nature and the environment by participating in hands-on activities, games, and exploring Habitat. For each program, we will complete the required number of activities to receive a badge. We also offer afterschool programs. Times are flexible and include early-release days.
The Habitat Wildlife Sanctuary offers a uniquely beautiful setting for weddings, receptions, and other events—either indoors or out. The house, built in 1914, has been hosting weddings and formal functions since 1977. Habitat’s facilities are also available for business meetings and conferences.
