Watch the Raising of Our Education & Camp Barn

Education and Camp Barn in fall

It was a historic year for Felix Neck Wildlife Sanctuary. Early 2017 brought the end of a very quick—and successful—fundraising campaign that enabled construction to start on the sanctuary’s first new building in 50 years.

The generosity of the Island community made this building possible. Support for the project included an expansion grant from MVYouth, and additional funds from the Permanent Endowment for Martha’s Vineyard, Farm Neck Foundation, Ann E. Clark Foundation, Rotary Club of Martha’s Vineyard, Martha’s Vineyard Saving Bank, and many others.

The Education and Camp Barn was built in record-breaking time by Autumn Construction, with the assistance of an Amish post and beam construction team. The Barn shell (Phase 1) was raised in just over two months!

That meant the Barn was finished in time to accommodate last summer's Fern & Feather Day Camp, which had doubled its participation over the last few years and was bursting at the seams in the existing Nature Center. Phase 2 was completed in the fall of 2017.

Going forward, the Education and Camp Barn will serve as a gathering place for school programs, Fern & Feather Day Camp, community events, and a future nature-based preschool.
