Group of people hiking an All Persons Trail at Habitat Education Center

On Saturday, June 6, from 2:00-4:00 pm, come celebrate National Trails Day and the exciting new trail features at Allens Pond!

After a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony at Stone Barn Farm, you'll get to explore the sanctuary's newly-installed universally accessible trail that connects the entire trail system.

The All Persons Trail is 0.75 miles in length and features a boardwalk and vernal pool viewing platform. It provides spectacular wildlife watching opportunities and scenic views of the marsh and Buzzards Bay.

Much of the funding for this work came from compensation Allens Pond received for the loss of recreational use of sanctuary land as a result of the 2003 Buzzards Bay oil spill. The funds were provided from the natural resource damage settlement for the spill to restore injured natural resources and lost public uses.

The Trustee Council that administers the settlement includes the Massachusetts Executive Office of Energy & Environmental Affairs, represented by the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection; Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management; US Fish & Wildlife Service; and the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration.

This is a free event, but registration is required for planning purposes.

Be sure to dress for an outdoor experience—bring insect repellent, sunscreen, and your sense of adventure!
