Turtle Monitor (May-August)

Location: Dartmouth, MA
Sanctuary: Allens Pond , Great Neck

The turtle monitor will search for state-listed turtles on three different Sanctuaries.  At Allens Pond and Cromeset Neck volunteers look for female turtles at high tide during June and July.  Once a nest is discovered it is protected with a small cage to prevent predation.  At Great Neck the state-listed Eastern Box Turtle wanders the forest floor looking for food on days that are not too hot and not too cold.  Volunteers will be trained on turtle sampling techniques, how to take measurements and how to report back to Natural Heritage and Endangered Species.
