Mass Audubon leader and naturalist, Sue MacCallum, returned from a fabulous trip to Costa Rica with a group of 8 enthusiastic birders.

The group traveled in the northern section of the country with a dash down the Pacific slope to Jaco. Many habitats were covered:

  • Mangroves and river edges along the Tarcoles River
  • Forest trails at Braullio Carillo
  • Carara National Parks
  • Arenal Volcano
  • Nicaraqua along the border 

In total they saw 247 bird species – with group favorites, including:

  • Red-capped Manakin
  • Red-legged Honeycreeper
  • Yellow-thighed Finch
  • Bare-throated TigerHeron
  • Green Ibis
